Career Choice Assessment: What to Expect?
Career Choice Assessment: What to Expect?
A career choice assessment can assist in career orientation. In this article, you'll learn what it is, the types available, and what to expect.
What is a Career Choice Assessment?
An assessment is a structured measurement of your preferences, competencies, or personality. The results are linked to suitable careers or directions. The goal is to provide guidance, not to determine a definitive truth.
Types of Assessments
**Preferences/RIASEC** — Measures what type of work energizes you. Six types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional. The Career Choice Test uses this model.
**Personality** — Big Five or other models. Measures character traits. Less directly linked to careers than RIASEC.
**Competencies** — Measures what you can do. Useful as a supplement, but less suitable as the sole basis for career choice.

Typically, you'll fill out a questionnaire (online or on paper). You'll receive statements or questions and indicate how much they apply to you. It takes 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the test. Afterwards, you'll receive a report with your profile and suggestions.
When is an Assessment Useful?
- You're unsure about your direction
- You want objective insight

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an Assessment Reliable?
Good assessments are scientifically grounded. RIASEC is widely researched. However, no test is 100% accurate. Use it as guidance, not as a truth. Combine with practical validation.
Can I "Fake" an Assessment?
You might try to give socially desirable answers. But that leads to an inaccurate profile and careers that don't suit you. Honest answers yield the best results.
